a great route into a career in housing/communities/construction

We are looking for unemployed or under-employed graduates who are up for a tough and demanding challenge.

Do you know someone with a degree, who would like to take their first steps towards a career in housing/community enhancement?

If yes, then here’s your chance to tell them about how to register their interest in the Graduate Employment Mentoring (GEM) Programme with the opportunity to gain a Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) qualification.

At a time when there are more than a million young people unemployed, the Centre for Partnership have exclusive internship opportunities with our partners on the GEM Programme.

Successful graduates will become employment-ready for a career in social housing. The degree subject is not important, though passion, commitment and hardworking values are essential requirements to work in social housing and communities.

The programme is funded by our housing partners, and offers an exciting opportunity to gain valuable first hand experience and network contacts with pay.

The programme incorporates intensive personal development training and support with employability skills.

Our GEM Programme offers:
  • a six month internship with one of our partner housing organisations in Bradford, Keighley or Leeds
  • the support of a trained workplace mentor
  • the opportunity to work towards a professional Chartered Institute of Housing qualification at Level 4
  • ongoing support to help you into work
  • the opportunity to add real value to the organisation and gain valuable work experience in all areas of housing, construction and communities

Get your organisation involved: the next cohort starts in Autumn 2012

What some of our previous GEMS said:

“GEMS has provided me with a terrific opportunity to learn new skills and find out more about working in the social housing sector. It’s helped me get a job with a local housing organisation and I’m thrilled.”

"GEMS initially gave me the opportunity to gain valuable experience within my field. Through dedication, eagerness to go that extra mile and exceed expectation, I earned myself that critical step onto the career ladder. Without GEMS I would have never been able to achieve this, I will always be indebted to the scheme."

“I started the GEM scheme with no hope, direction or motivation and have left it with focus, desire and possibility.  If you have a passion for social housing and the commitment to match, the scheme will help propel you to where you want to be.”

“I want to thank you all for your mentoring and support over the past months, which has paid off in getting my ideal job. I wish the next cohort all the best for a successful course and placements. If they as lucky as I was with Jed and the Bradford City Centre Project team, they are in for a great time.”

“What have I gained from the GEM Programme? Belief... without the internship I would not have been successful in my application for my role at DISC. The GEMS networking opportunities also gave me the chance to volunteer in Jamaica, which added new transferable skills to my CV and gave me a valuable and enjoyable experience outside of the United Kingdom.”

“I really enjoyed my time on the GEM Programme. GEMS has helped me kick-start my career by improving my confidence levels; not only that, I now help others build their confidence and kick-start their careers.”
